Is plastic surgery becoming the norm?

I've got this Korean-American friend who I was chatting with the other day, and she was saying that something like half of Korean (not Korean-American) women get plastic surgery done. At first I was suprised but then I thought, is it really so different here in the U.S? Obviously it's not as commonplace as half the population yet but even a decade ago, plastic surgery was something only the super rich had done. These days if someone told me they'd had a face lift or a boob job I wouldn't really think anything of it.

And apparently it's getting more common with men too. Stuff like body sculpting is getting more and more popular with American men, or even nose re-shaping and surgery you can get done on your face. I guess if you really hate part of your face it does make sense, but with that body sculpting thing and liposuction for women I'm less sure what I think. Couldn't you go to the gym to lose weight and get a better body instead? Having said that, I just joined a gym and it really is just like this:

Maybe it is a better use of your money to just get liposuction instead. :/
